It's the end and it's the beginning, video, 2024
I divided the video into two parts. The first part is the narrative. I shot and edited some real images of families going to the cemetery to pay respects during the Qingming Festival in China. I want to tell the audience that this is a work about the theme of death.

The second part is some old photos of my late grandfather. To express how much I miss him. Consider this part of the process of spiritual communication between me and him.

Initially, my concept for editing was to project the flame effects from the video onto the fire sculpture below. I believed I achieved this when testing the effect in the classroom. However, during installation at the Copland Gallery, I found the exhibition space to be quite bright, making my video effects less prominent. Additionally, feedback from observers suggested that the sculpture became secondary to the video, as the flame effects distracted from it.

Ultimately, I decided to conceal the flames in the background, emphasizing the role of the content in the video. I added a light in front of the fire sculpture and left a blank space in the video to showcase the sculpture. This allowed viewers to notice the sculpture and contemplate its significance.
